At Teepalig, we believe in the power of trees to transform lives and landscapes. Not only do trees absorb carbon and help mitigate impacts of global greenhouse gas emissions, they also provide wildlife habitats, reduce stormwater runoff, limit erosion, create shade, decrease temperatures, provide opportunities for environmental education, and grow food.
Our locally grown, indigenous trees assist in restoring nutrients back into the soil, creating a more resilient ecosystem in the face of a changing climate. Planting new trees is especially important in rural Ghana due to the region’s unique challenges. Our communities face increased desertification, changing rainfall patterns, a decline in reliable water access, and high demand for using trees for firewood. Sadly, Ghana has one of the highest national deforestation rates in the world. Therefore, native tree planting is a high priority for all of us.
